National Times Bureau :- A strong wave of icy winds continues to push temperatures down across North India, deepening the winter chill. Several regions are already experiencing severe cold conditions, while rain in parts of the country is expected to worsen the situation. The weather department has issued rainfall alerts for three states and a dense fog advisory for 12 major cities, urging residents to remain cautious.
In many areas, temperatures are predicted to fall below 15°C, with minimum temperatures expected to drop close to—or even below—5°C.
Punjab and Chandigarh Face Continued Cold Wave
Punjab and Chandigarh remain gripped by a persistent cold wave as icy winds from the hills sweep across the plains. Though no fresh cold wave warning has been issued for today or tomorrow, the Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert for December 9 and 10.
The sudden drop in temperature, combined with Himalayan snowfall, has intensified the chill, affecting daily life across the region.
Further Temperature Drop Expected Until December 11
According to the Met Department, daytime temperatures in northern and eastern districts of Punjab are likely to stay between 20°C and 22°C until December 11. Other parts of the state may see temperatures ranging from 22°C to 24°C. Throughout the week, daytime temperatures are expected to remain slightly below normal.
District-wise Temperature Outlook
Northern districts—including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Mohali, and Kapurthala—are expected to remain colder than usual.
Similarly, southern Punjab—covering Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala, Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Sangrur, and Malerkotla—is also predicted to witness below-normal temperatures.
Night temperatures across many areas may drop to 4°C–6°C, adding to the harsh winter conditions.
