Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Calgary International Airport (YYC) today celebrated a significant milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official reopening of its West Runway following an extensive reconstruction and upgrade project. The event was attended by airport officials, industry partners, and city representatives, who gathered to commemorate the reinstatement of one of the airport’s most critical infrastructure assets.
According to YYC, the first aircraft is scheduled to utilize the runway tomorrow, marking the commencement of phased operations. The West Runway is expected to resume full operational capacity on December 2nd. The reopening is anticipated to enhance airport efficiency, reduce delays, and support the growing demand for passenger and cargo services in Calgary and the surrounding region.
YYC officials emphasized that the upgraded runway will significantly improve safety, accommodate larger aircraft, and bolster the long-term resilience of Alberta’s busiest airport.
