Dehradun, November 19 — Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday appealed to social media creators and influencers to actively showcase the state’s tourist destinations, traditional products, cultural legacy, and social progress through their platforms. He said that content creators also play a vital role in combating misinformation and negative narratives circulating online.
Speaking at the “Social Media Manthan” programme held at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan, the Chief Minister said social media has become the quickest and most influential medium for communication. He noted that a person sitting anywhere in the world can now express views to a global audience within seconds, making digital platforms a powerful tool for amplifying public voices.
Dhami highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi integrated social media into governance after 2014, transforming digital platforms into channels for transparency, public engagement, and direct communication. He added that initiatives such as X, Facebook outreach, Mann Ki Baat, MyGov, and the PMO’s digital network have set new standards for digital governance, with the Prime Minister being among the world’s most-followed leaders.
Inspired by this model, the state government aims to strengthen “Digital Uttarakhand,” he said. Dhami recalled several instances where a single post or livestream helped resolve public grievances — from children receiving medical assistance to road repairs and rescue operations during emergencies.
However, he also warned about the rapid rise in fake news, rumours, and divisive content online. According to him, some groups misuse social media to create ideological rifts, spread misinformation about welfare schemes, and harm social harmony. He stressed the need for responsible digital users who can counter such content with verified information.
Dhami said certain individuals with anti-religious or anti-national motives have been trying to malign Uttarakhand’s cultural values by spreading false narratives. He urged creators to check facts promptly and ensure that correct information reaches citizens.
The Chief Minister also criticised content creators who circulate distorted or misleading information for views and online popularity. He urged influencers to prioritise ethics and responsibility over the pursuit of followers, adding that social media must be used to strengthen society, not mislead it.
