New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, after he was deported from the United States and flown back to India. Officials confirmed that the agency took him into custody the moment he landed, marking a major development in several ongoing investigations involving the Bishnoi network.
Anmol, who had been evading Indian authorities for nearly two years, is a key suspect in multiple sensational crimes — among them the murder of senior NCP leader Baba Siddique in October 2024, the shooting incident outside Salman Khan’s residence, and a role in planning the Sidhu Moosewala killing.
He was detained by US authorities in November 2023 before being removed from the country this week. The NIA had already listed him as a wanted accused and filed a chargesheet against him in March 2023 for allegedly helping Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi coordinate violent activities between 2020 and 2023.
Investigators say Anmol operated from abroad, directing gang operatives in India and providing logistics support, money, and shelter to shooters. The agency also claims he continued to run extortion operations remotely, threatening businessmen and public figures through gang members on the ground.
The NIA is probing how the Bishnoi network expanded across international borders, with officials asserting that Anmol played a major role in keeping the syndicate active from foreign soil. The agency says its focus now is on identifying the financial channels, arms suppliers, and handlers connected to the gang’s terror-like activities.
The murder of Baba Siddique outside his son’s Bandra office last year triggered a massive manhunt, leading to the arrest of 26 people linked to the Bishnoi group. Mumbai Police have invoked the MCOCA to tighten the legal net around the accused.
Along with Anmol, Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammed Akhtar were also on the list of absconding suspects.
With Anmol’s deportation and arrest, authorities believe they have secured a critical link in the transnational criminal syndicate, giving investigators new ground to uncover the full scale of the gang’s operations.
