CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Conducts Surprise Inspection at ISBT, Sweeps Premises to Send Message on Cleanliness

Dehradun, November 18: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Dehradun ISBT on Tuesday afternoon for a surprise inspection and expressed displeasure after noticing garbage scattered at several spots inside the premises. He immediately picked up a broom and swept the area himself, urging officials, employees, and shopkeepers to maintain strict cleanliness at the bus terminal.

Dhami told officials that passengers must not encounter unhygienic conditions at any point and reminded them that it is their responsibility to keep every corner clean. He stressed that ensuring cleanliness is a collective duty and not just a paperwork exercise. “Cleanliness should be visible on the ground, not only in files,” he said.

MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari briefed the Chief Minister about ongoing beautification and development works being carried out by the Authority. The Chief Minister also reviewed bus operations, ticket counters, waiting areas, drinking water facilities, toilets, shops, and security arrangements.

Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a major tourism and pilgrimage state, where millions of visitors arrive every year. Because of this, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and essential services at transport hubs like bus stands and railway stations must remain a top priority for the state.

During the inspection, senior officials including Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia, Chief Engineer H.C.S. Rana, Finance Officer Sanjeev Singh, and ISBT Project Manager Anuja Singh were present.

Earlier, the Chief Minister interacted with senior citizens sitting in the park inside the ISBT campus and sought suggestions for improving facilities. One of them pointed out that while MDDA is spending lakhs of rupees on beautification, visitors also share the responsibility of maintaining the premises. Dhami instructed officials to install awareness boards to encourage public cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also commented on the issue of fraudulent identity documents in the state. He said several Aadhaar cards and other IDs have been obtained through illegal means in some districts. Strict action will be taken based on ongoing investigations, he assured. “Those attempting to change the state’s demography will not be spared. Identity cards issued in violation of rules will be cancelled,” Dhami said.
