Shootout Linked to Alleged Extortion Attempt Alarms Saddleridge Residents in Calgary

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): A quiet Monday morning turned tense in Saddleridge after a house on Saddlelake Grove NE was struck by gunfire around 3:45 a.m. According to residents, unknown individuals in a white SUV opened fire at the home, discharging approximately 12 rounds—five hitting a vehicle parked in front of the house and seven striking the front exterior and garage.

Sources claim the homeowner had received threatening phone calls about a month ago demanding an alleged extortion payment of $300,000, along with certain videos. Some sources also mentioned that the caller identified himself with the name “Tony Bal,” though this information remains unverified. They allege the shooting occurred after the homeowner did not respond to the threats.

Calgary Police Service (CPS) confirmed the early morning shooting and stated that the investigation is ongoing. Police have not linked the incident to extortion at this stage and maintain that there is no immediate threat to public safety.

Despite reassurances, many residents say they feel increasingly unsafe, noting that such violent incidents appear to be happening more frequently in Calgary. CPS has urged the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with police, and report any suspicious individuals or activity without delay.
