Meghalaya’s Akash Kumar Choudhary Blasts Fastest Ever First-Class Fifty, Hits Eight Consecutive Sixes

Surat, November 9, 2025 — In an extraordinary display of power-hitting, Akash Kumar Choudhary of Meghalaya cricket team smashed a half-century in just 11 balls during a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh cricket team, setting a new world record for the fastest fifty in first-class cricket. He also became the first cricketer to hit eight consecutive sixes in the format.

Coming in at number 8, Choudhary launched his assault after a dot and two singles. He then cleared the rope eight times in a row six sixes off one over bowled by Limar Dabi and two more in the next to reach 50* in just nine minutes, according to match reports.

The previous record for the fewest balls to fifty in first-class cricket was 12, held by England’s Wayne White since 2012. Choudhary’s knock broke that mark by one delivery.

While Choudhary’s batting exploded into headlines, the overall team performance was dominant Meghalaya declared at 628/6, and Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 73 in their second innings.

Choudhary had previously been considered an unfancied player, averaging just 14.37 with only two fifties in 30 first-class matches prior to this innings. But his record-breaking display has now catapulted him into cricketing folklore.
