New Delhi, October 24, 2025: Lakhvinder Kumar, alias Lakkhi, a notorious gangster from Haryana’s Kaithal district, is being deported from the United States on Saturday with the assistance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), officials familiar with the matter confirmed.
Lakhvinder, a resident of Titram village in Kaithal, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in California in June 2025. The FBI stated at the time that he was wanted in India on multiple charges including attempted murder, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and illegal possession of firearms.
According to officials, “He is being brought back to India with the support of the CBI’s Global Operations Centre (GOC) and will be handed over to the Haryana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) upon arrival.”
In a June 6 post, FBI Sacramento announced Lakhvinder Kumar’s arrest in Stockton, California, noting that their teams, in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security, were targeting dangerous fugitives to ensure community safety.
Lakhvinder’s name featured in a list of ten gangsters and criminal syndicate leaders marked for deportation from various countries, as reported earlier. The list included Sahil Ritoli from Rohtak, Diler Kotiya from Karnal, Saurav Gadoli and Dinesh Gandhi from Gurugram, Aman Bhainswal from Sonipat, and Sushil alias Sheela from Sonipat, among others.
During a two-day CBI conference held on October 16–17, officials discussed measures to fast-track the extradition and deportation of fugitives abroad. CBI Director Praveen Sood revealed that 388 extradition requests were currently pending across different countries and that India had issued 957 Interpol Red Notices for wanted fugitives.
Out of these, 231 cases are linked to the CBI, 130 to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), 21 to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and 12 to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), while the rest involve state police cases.
Sood detailed that 189 notices relate to economic offences, 254 to terrorism, 21 to money laundering, 55 to narcotics, and others to crimes such as rape, murder, and kidnapping.
The CBI’s Global Operations Centre has successfully brought back 36 fugitives so far this year, compared to 29 in 2023 and 30 in 2024. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts for extraditing fugitives and establish dedicated units and secure facilities in each state to handle such cases.
