National Times Bureau :- Mohali Police have uncovered a high-profile extortion and blackmail racket, arresting Chandigarh Club’s executive member, Vikas Bector. The accused has been charged with threatening a lawyer with firearms and attempting to extort money through intimidation. Bector has been taken on police remand for questioning.
Complaint by Lawyer Triggers Action
The investigation followed a complaint lodged at Mullampur Police Station by city-based lawyer Gaurav Dheer. According to the complaint, Vikas Bector and his associates repeatedly threatened the lawyer and attempted to coerce money from him using arms.
FIR Registered Under BNS Sections
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 308(3) and 351(3) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita). The authorities have emphasized that this operation is not limited to a single individual but involves a larger network under scrutiny.
Associates Under Interrogation
Alongside Bector, two of his associates, Raman Agarwal and Nitin Goel—whose names also appear in the FIR—were subjected to extensive interrogation by Punjab Police on Tuesday. Officials have indicated that further arrests are likely as the investigation into the full network continues.
History of Criminal Cases
Police sources revealed that Bector, who reportedly claimed close ties with senior officials, already has multiple criminal cases pending against him. The current action is seen as part of a broader crackdown on organized extortion networks in the region.
