Dehradun, October 22, 2025: On the occasion of Govardhan Puja, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered prayers to Gau Mata at the cowshed within his official residence, extending wishes of prosperity, harmony, and well-being to the people of the state. He highlighted the festival’s deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance.
The Chief Minister emphasized that in Sanatan Dharma, the cow is both sacred and central to the agrarian economy. “Gau Mata represents both faith and livelihood. Serving and protecting cows strengthens our culture and supports lakhs of families dependent on cattle rearing,” he said.
As part of his pro-cattle welfare initiatives, Mr. Dhami announced a substantial increase in the daily maintenance grant for stray cattle in Gau Sadans—from Rs. 5 per animal per day to Rs. 80—reflecting the government’s strengthened commitment toward animal welfare and rural sustainability.
Furthering support for private initiatives, the state government has launched a policy offering a 60% subsidy for constructing private cowsheds, empowering rural communities and promoting self-reliance. The Chief Minister also informed that 54 Gau Sadans are under construction across various districts, providing structured care for both stray and domesticated cattle while generating rural employment opportunities.
Mr. Dhami underscored the broader significance of Govardhan Puja, remarking that the festival honours traditions while highlighting the balance between humans, nature, and animals, encouraging sustainable development alongside cultural preservation.
Sharing his message of goodwill on social media platform X, the Chief Minister wrote:
“Govardhan Puja is not only a religious festival but also a celebration of gratitude toward nature and farmers. May this sacred day bring abundance and peace into the lives of all citizens of Uttarakhand.”
