National Times Bureau :- In response to a surge in stubble-burning incidents, the Punjab government has adopted a strict stance, initiating action against farmers found violating the ban.
According to official data, FIRs have been registered against 20 farmers, and fines amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh have been imposed. Over the past eight days, authorities have recorded 70 cases of stubble burning. In addition, red entries have been made in land records of 16 farmers as a punitive measure.
The crackdown follows the Supreme Court’s directive to take stringent action against stubble burning. However, officials note that many farmers, facing financial distress, continue to resort to the practice despite legal and environmental consequences.
