MLA Kulwant Singh Flags Off Relief Trucks for Punjab Flood Victims, Urges PM for Additional Grant

Mohali, September 18: MLA Kulwant Singh today flagged off vehicles loaded with relief material, including 500 cots, mattresses, pillows, and bedding, for families affected by floods in Punjab. Speaking to reporters at his Sector-79 office, he stressed that ration, daily essentials, and proper rehabilitation arrangements must continue for flood victims with everyone fulfilling their responsibility.

Singh said nearly 2,300 villages and around five lakh acres of farmland in Punjab had been submerged, destroying homes, livestock, and livelihoods. “Punjabis are known for their resilience. Even in such testing times, people from across India and abroad are contributing relief materials according to the needs of affected areas,” he added.

He clarified that his team is coordinating with nodal officers to ensure that supplies match ground requirements. Today’s consignment included 500 cots, 500 mattresses, and 1,000 pillows. Singh assured that the process of sending aid would continue until full recovery.

On a query about central assistance, the MLA appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the next installment of flood relief at the earliest. “Everything needs rebuilding, and more funds are required for rehabilitation. Punjabis contribute a significant share to the country’s food reserves. Now, the nation must stand firmly with Punjab in this hour of crisis,” he said.

It is noteworthy that Kulwant Singh has earlier dispatched several relief consignments from his Mohali office for flood-hit families. Prominent local leaders and representatives, including Kuldeep Singh Samana, Paramjit Singh Chauhan, State Awardee Phoolraj Singh, former councillor R.P. Sharma, and many others, were present on the occasion.
