National Times Bureau :- Faridkot police achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting three men connected to the Davinder Bambiha gang in an extortion case involving a demand of ₹1 crore.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Pragya Jain revealed that among those arrested is Ramjot Singh, alias Jot, a resident of Moga, who opened fire on the police during a weapon recovery operation. He was injured in retaliatory firing and later apprehended. A .32 bore pistol and live cartridges were seized from him.
The extortion case, registered at Kotkapura City police station in July, involved gang members firing outside the victim’s residence on September 1 after their demand went unmet. Based on technical inputs, police arrested two accused — Sandeep Singh alias Lovely and Ramjot Singh alias Joti — from Kotkapura’s grain market on September 7.
Investigations further revealed that the crime was orchestrated under the instructions of gangsters Seema Barhiwal and Jasm Barhiwal, with weapons supplied by Moga resident Malkit Singh. He was brought on production warrant from Faridkot Central Jail on September 8.
During questioning, Ramjot disclosed that the pistol used in the firing was hidden near a canal at Dhilwan village. While leading the police to the site, he attempted to escape and fired at the police party, prompting his arrest after being injured in crossfire.
SSP Jain said Ramjot has three prior cases against him, including drug trafficking and Arms Act violations. Malkit Singh faces five cases related to narcotics, arms, and attempted murder, while Sandeep Singh also has one case registered against him. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway and more arrests are expected soon.
