Fazilka (Gurpreet Singh): In a major crackdown on international arms trafficking, the Fazilka Police have successfully uncovered a cross-border weapons smuggling operation with suspected ties to handlers based in Pakistan. Two individuals have been taken into custody following the bust, which led to the recovery of a substantial stockpile of firearms and ammunition.
The seizure includes 18 pistols, 1,847 rounds of ammunition, and 42 magazines. Officials revealed that the operation was launched based on credible intelligence, pointing toward an organized racket facilitated by operatives from across the border.
According to sources, the arrested men were acting under instructions from foreign-based handlers. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment may have been part of a larger plan to supply illegal arms within the region, potentially fueling criminal or extremist activities.
Law enforcement agencies have now intensified efforts to track the full extent of the network. Both backward and forward linkages are being probed to identify additional players involved, including local facilitators and end recipients.
Police officials emphasized that this is not an isolated incident but a reflection of ongoing attempts to destabilize the region through illicit cross-border activities. “This seizure is a strong message to those trying to spread unrest through illegal means. Punjab Police will continue its relentless efforts to uproot such threats,” a senior official said.
With further inquiries underway, authorities expect more revelations and possible arrests in the coming days. The operation underscores the growing concern over international involvement in regional criminal networks and the need for heightened vigilance.
