Himachal Floods: PM Modi Assures Full Central Support, Meets Affected Families

Kangra, September 9, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Himachal Pradesh to assess the destruction caused by recent floods, cloudbursts, and landslides. He conducted an aerial survey of the worst-affected regions before holding a review meeting in Kangra district with state officials and disaster management authorities.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister announced a relief package of ₹1,500 crore to support recovery and rebuilding efforts. The Centre will also release the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) in advance and extend benefits under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Additionally, measures will be taken for restoration of national highways, provision of mini kits for livestock, and fresh approvals under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

PM Modi emphasized support for the farming community, noting that special assistance will be directed toward farmers who currently lack power connections. Geotagging of damaged houses will be carried out to speed up damage assessment and ensure timely disbursal of aid. Similar measures will also be taken for schools to enable quick support under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, ensuring continuity of education for children in flood-hit areas.

Water management was another key focus, with the Prime Minister announcing the construction of recharge structures to harvest rainwater and improve groundwater levels. The Centre has already dispatched inter-ministerial teams to survey the situation, and further aid will be based on their findings.

The Prime Minister personally met families affected by the disaster, offering condolences to those who lost their loved ones. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh has been approved for the next of kin of the deceased, while the injured will receive ₹50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Acknowledging the dedicated efforts of NDRF, SDRF, Army personnel, Aapda Mitra volunteers, and state authorities, Modi praised their role in immediate relief and rescue operations. He assured that the Union Government will stand firmly with Himachal Pradesh in this crisis and provide all possible assistance for recovery.

In a message on social media, the Prime Minister said: “Through an aerial survey, I reviewed the situation caused by floods and landslides in Himachal Pradesh. We stand in full solidarity with our brothers and sisters of the state during this difficult time and are leaving no stone unturned in extending help to the affected people.”
