Security Alert at Takht Sri Patna Sahib After RDX Threat Email Prompts Bomb Squad Search

Patna (Gurpreet Singh): A serious security scare unfolded at the historic Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib on Monday after an anonymous email claimed that explosive devices containing RDX had been planted inside the Gurdwara’s Langar Hall. The threat, though later unverified, caused widespread panic among the management, devotees, and residents nearby.

The alarming email was received at the post office associated with the Takht Sahib, reportedly stating that four RDX-based LED devices were located within the Langar Hall area. Reacting swiftly, the Gurdwara management notified senior police officials, triggering an immediate high-security response.

Authorities Launch Emergency Protocol

Upon receiving the alert, senior members of the Takht Sahib Committee, including President Jagjot Singh Sohi and General Secretary Inderjit Singh, sprang into action. Gurdwara administrative staff, including the superintendent and IT team, quickly evacuated the premises and informed authorities.

The district administration responded by deploying bomb disposal squads, dog units, and anti-sabotage teams to comb through the Gurdwara complex. The entire area was sealed, and security personnel carried out a room-to-room inspection that lasted several hours.

Despite a meticulous search operation that extended into the evening, officials confirmed that no explosive materials were found inside the premises.

Public Anxiety Lingers Despite All-Clear

Although the immediate threat was ruled out, the scare left a lasting impact. Devotees staying in and around the premises expressed concern, while many were seen leaving early due to fear and uncertainty. Local police have since tightened surveillance, installing checkpoints around the Gurdwara and increasing patrolling in the neighborhood.

“The situation is under control, but the threat cannot be ignored, especially considering the religious and historical importance of this place,” said DSP Dr. Gaurav Kumar, who confirmed that the threat email is now under investigation by the Cyber Cell.

Concerns Ahead of High-Profile Religious Procession

The timing of the incident has raised serious concerns, as the Takht Sahib is preparing to host the Shaheed Jagriti Yatra, a major religious procession expected to draw large crowds, including national and state-level dignitaries such as the Chief Minister of Bihar and members of his cabinet.

“This cannot be seen as a mere prank. The fact that such a message came just days before a significant religious gathering makes it highly suspicious,” said Sudeep Singh, Media Coordinator for the Takht Patna Sahib Committee. “The sender must be traced immediately, and the motive behind this act uncovered. It could be an attempt to create unrest or target a sacred institution.”
