Kulgam (Rajeev Sharma): A fierce gunfight broke out in the Gudar forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district after security forces launched an anti-terror operation based on intelligence inputs.
During the exchange of fire, an Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained injuries and was quickly shifted to a hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that his condition is stable. In a significant development, one terrorist was also neutralized during the ongoing encounter. His identity is yet to be ascertained.
The operation was launched jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security personnel cordoned off the forested region after receiving credible information about the movement of armed militants.
Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the encounter earlier in the day through a post on X, noting that contact had been established with terrorists hiding in the dense forests. Authorities added that the search and clearance operation is continuing, with additional forces deployed to ensure no militant manages to slip out.
The situation remains tense in the area, and officials have said further details will be released once the operation concludes.
