Witnesses reported that some of his colleagues panicked and moved away, but quick-thinking villagers rushed to his aid, carried him to safety, and called for medical help.

Local residents criticized the initial hesitation shown by some policemen and lauded the villagers for stepping forward in the crisis. “He is one of your own, don’t leave him behind,” a villager reportedly shouted as they rescued the officer.

Officials said the officer’s own family has been affected by the floods, adding to his emotional strain during the relief operations. He has since received medical attention and is reported to be stable.
