Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Directs Tough Action for ‘Drugs-Free Uttarakhand’ Campaign

Dehradun, August 25, 2025: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to intensify the Drugs-Free Uttarakhand campaign on a large scale. Chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, he emphasized strict action against offenders under the NDPS Act and called for strengthening the Anti-Narcotics Task Force with additional posts if required.

The Chief Minister instructed that the national narcotics helpline ‘मानस’ – 1933 be widely publicized so citizens can report complaints. He asked police, health, education, social welfare, and other departments to jointly conduct workshops and prepare a detailed action plan to make the state drug-free.

Dhami also stressed heightened vigilance in border areas to prevent drug supply from outside states, with strict punishment for those involved in trafficking. Awareness drives in schools and colleges will be expanded to keep youth away from substance abuse.

He further directed police to increase night patrols and take firm action against drunk driving.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for promoting indigenous products and building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He asked the Urban Development Department to act as the nodal agency to run a state-wide campaign encouraging the use of indigenous goods.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, ADG V. Murugesan, ADG A.P. Anshuman, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, IG Rajiv Swaroop, Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, and Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari were present at the meeting.
