Kapurthala (Gurpreet Singh): A horrific accident on the Kapurthala–Jalandhar highway claimed three lives on Tuesday morning after a bus, allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the road, collided head-on with a goods carrier near Mand village.
The goods vehicle was crushed in the impact, leaving its passengers fatally injured on the spot. The victims were identified as Ishwar Lal and Mukesh, vegetable traders from Kapurthala, and their driver Rakesh, all originally from Bihar. The trio was on its way to Jalandhar to procure fruits and vegetables when tragedy struck.
Local Outrage
Soon after the crash, residents and family members of the deceased gathered at the accident site, blocking traffic and raising demands for stern action against the bus driver. The driver, according to eyewitnesses, abandoned the vehicle and escaped immediately after the collision.
Police Assurances
Police personnel rushed to the site, dispersed the crowd, and assured the agitated locals of a fair and thorough probe. The bodies were shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the absconding bus driver.
The incident has reignited concerns over rash driving and highway safety, with residents urging authorities to intensify monitoring and penal action to prevent further loss of lives.
