National Times Bureau :- A devastating road accident occurred early on August 15 around 7 a.m., when a passenger bus collided with a stationary truck, leaving 10 people dead and more than 30 seriously injured. All the deceased are reported to be residents of Bihar.
Returning from Gangasagar Pilgrimage
According to local sources, the bus was carrying 45 passengers, including five children, who were returning to Bihar after bathing at Gangasagar. The accident took place near Phagupur on National Highway-19, when the bus suddenly rammed into a truck parked on the road. The impact was so severe that the front of the bus was completely crushed, trapping several passengers inside. The fatalities include two women and eight men.
Locals Join Rescue Efforts
Upon receiving news of the accident, local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. Police and administrative teams arrived shortly after. With the help of a crane, the bus was separated from the truck, and trapped passengers were freed after considerable effort. The injured were rushed by ambulance to Bardhaman Medical College and other nearby hospitals.
Authorities Begin Investigation
Preliminary reports suggest that the primary causes of the accident were the unmarked stationary truck and the high speed of the bus. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage related to the incident.
