Nanaimo, B.C., August 12, 2025: The offroad adventure community is mourning the loss of Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, a Nanaimo couple who built a global following through their popular YouTube channel, Toyota World Runners. The pair died on August 7 in an offroad vehicle accident near Trout Lake in B.C.’s West Kootenay region.
The channel, with over 200,000 subscribers, showcased rugged offroad journeys across British Columbia and beyond, alongside detailed blogs about RV and vehicle retrofits. Their expeditions spanned North and South America, inspiring fans with tales of remote landscapes and self-reliant travel.
News of their deaths was confirmed by Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR), which responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Mark Jennings-Bates, SAR manager, said rescuers reached the couple quickly thanks to accurate location data. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other succumbed to injuries in hospital. The cause is suspected to be a loss of control on rough terrain.
Stacey’s mother, Colleen Tourout, wrote on social media that the couple died “in the mountains of B.C. that they loved so much,” adding, “They are together forever, as we knew they would always be.”
Tributes have poured in from across the offroading world. Fellow content creator The Story Till Now posted: “They were so young and full of life, so talented, and this is a huge loss for our offroad community, their friends and family, and the world.”
SAR urged offroaders to take extra precautions in mountainous terrain, noting that rescue operations can take time due to distance and conditions.
