Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump has issued an Executive Order granting a 90-day extension to the current suspension of tariffs on Chinese imports. The announcement, made on Tuesday, emphasized that all other parts of the existing trade agreement between the two countries will remain intact.
“I have just signed an Executive Order that will extend the Tariff Suspension on China for another 90 days. All other elements of the Agreement will remain the same,” President Trump said in his statement.
The decision aims to maintain trade stability between the U.S. and China, providing an extended window for economic cooperation without additional tariff burdens. The suspension, initially implemented to reduce market strain and encourage continued dialogue, was nearing its expiration date.
Market watchers suggest the extension could have a calming effect on industries dependent on Chinese imports, particularly in technology, electronics, and consumer goods. However, critics argue that prolonged tariff relief might reduce leverage in future trade negotiations.
While the administration has not indicated whether further extensions are planned, this move underscores the President’s commitment to keeping current trade conditions steady in the immediate term.
