Washington, August 11, 2025: US President Donald Trump on Monday vowed to “liberate” the nation’s capital from what he called “crime, savagery, filth, and scum,” promising an immediate end to violence against innocent people in Washington, DC.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump announced, “LIBERATION DAY IN DC WE ARE TAKING OUR CAPITAL BACK!!!” He added, “Washington, DC will be LIBERATED today! Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR. I will MAKE OUR CAPITAL GREAT AGAIN! The days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people, are OVER!”
The remarks came ahead of a 10 a.m. (ET) press conference at the White House, where Trump is expected to unveil his “crime and beautification” plan as federal agents intensify street patrols in the city. Trump said the initiative would not only address “Crime, Murder, and Death” but also focus on cleanliness and restoring the physical condition of the capital.
Praising his administration’s border measures, Trump claimed, “I quickly fixed the Border (ZERO ILLEGALS in last 3 months!), DC is next!!!”
The President also criticized the Federal Reserve’s $3.1 billion headquarters renovation project, calling it wasteful. “It could have been done in a far more elegant and time-sensitive manner for $50 to $100 million,” he said, adding that the current plan would lead to traffic jams and prolonged construction.
Trump’s comments followed the arrest of two 15-year-old boys in connection with an unarmed carjacking and assault on Edward Coristine, a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer known as “Big Balls.” The incident prompted an increase in federal law enforcement patrols across Washington.
