Women’s Commission Takes Suo Moto Against Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh Over Misogynistic Lyrics

Chandigarh: The Punjab State Women Commission has taken strong suo motu action against two popular Punjabi singers, citing objectionable lyrics that allegedly degrade and insult women.

The Commission, acting under its authority granted by Section 12 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001, has formally raised concerns about the language used in two widely circulated songs, “MF GABRU” by Karan Aujla and “MILLIONAIRE” by Yo Yo Honey Singh.

According to the Commission, both songs, which are currently trending on social media, contain expressions that promote harmful stereotypes and disrespect towards women. The Commission views such content as a serious infringement on the dignity, safety, and status of women in Punjab.

In separate letters addressed to senior officials at Punjab Police Headquarters, the Commission has called for an immediate investigation into both songs. It has asked for a report on the action taken and has also summoned both artists for personal hearings.

Singer Karan Aujla has been asked to appear before the Commission at 11:00 AM on August 11, 2025, while Yo Yo Honey Singh is scheduled to appear at 11:30 AM the same day.

Officials have also been directed to ensure that the matter is dealt with by legal procedures and that the findings of the inquiry are reported without delay.

The Commission emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the rights and representation of women, especially in the entertainment and media sectors, which have a wide-reaching influence on public attitudes.

In a time where online platforms are central to shaping youth culture, the move has reignited conversations around responsibility in artistic expression and the line between creative freedom and offensive content.
