Gujarat CM Inaugurates National Senior Women’s Handball Championship in Bhuj

Bhuj, June 28, 2025 — Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the 51st National Senior Women’s Handball Championship at the Lallubhai Samani Indoor Stadium in Bhuj on Saturday, marking a significant boost for women’s sports in the state.

Organised under the aegis of the Handball Federation of India (HFI), the championship has brought together 32 teams from across the country, who will compete over the next several days for the national title.

In his address, CM Patel emphasized the Gujarat government’s commitment to promoting sports and providing robust infrastructure for athletes. He expressed confidence that the event would not only showcase top-level talent but also inspire young women to pursue handball and other sports professionally.

“Gujarat is fast emerging as a hub for national and international sports events. The state government is dedicated to creating world-class facilities and opportunities for our athletes, particularly women, who are bringing laurels to the nation,” Patel said.

Officials from the Handball Federation of India, Gujarat State Handball Association, and local authorities attended the ceremony, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic spectators. Cultural performances added colour to the inauguration.

The championship will witness intense competition as teams vie for supremacy, with the final scheduled for July 5. The event is also seen as a platform for national selectors to scout talent for future international tournaments.
