Beijing/Cairo (National Times) — In a crucial diplomatic exchange, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty to discuss the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East, expressing deep concern over Israel’s recent military actions and the escalating regional tensions.
Wang Yi sharply criticized Israel’s operations, stating that its conduct “disregards international law and global norms,” warning that such actions risk pushing the region to the brink of uncontrollable conflict. He called on all parties—particularly Israel—to prioritize the safety, well-being, and interests of people across the region.
“China is deeply concerned that the situation may spiral out of control,” Wang said, urging an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of meaningful dialogue to prevent further bloodshed.
During the call, Foreign Minister Abdelatty shared Egypt’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the region. Egypt has taken a leading role in rallying support for a joint initiative involving 20 Arab and Islamic nations. The initiative calls for an urgent end to hostilities, renewed nuclear talks with Iran, and a broader push toward long-term peace and stability in the region.
China voiced full support for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, with Wang Yi describing the initiative as both “timely and necessary.” He noted that coordinated multilateral diplomacy was essential for breaking the cycle of violence and restoring trust in regional dialogue.
The joint stance by China and Egypt is expected to put additional international pressure on conflicting parties and may contribute to renewed discussions at the United Nations and other diplomatic forums in the coming days.
