Chandigarh (National Times): In a strongly worded post on social media, Congress MP Raja Warring lashed out at both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab units, accusing them of politicising the Indian Army’s recent counter-terror operation, codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Warring wrote, “It is way too clear that the AAP Punjab and the BJP Punjab are two sides of the same coin. Now both of them are trying to do petty politics in the name of ‘Operation Sindoor’.”
He slammed BJP leaders for posturing as though they had personally taken part in the military action and criticised the AAP for casting doubts on the operation’s success. In a sharp jibe aimed at the BJP’s controversial history of engineering defections, Warring stated, “‘Operation Sindoor’ was not the ‘Operation Lotus’ of the BJP.”
“We do acknowledge your dirty skills you employ during ‘Operation Lotus’, but please for the sake of dignity and glory of our Defence Forces don’t try to lay your claim on their victory,” he added.
Warring’s post comes amid a brewing political tussle in Punjab, where both the BJP and AAP have taken contrasting positions on the high-profile military operation launched in response to recent terrorist activity along India’s northern borders.
While BJP leaders have hailed the success of Operation Sindoor and credited the central government for backing the Armed Forces, AAP leaders have questioned the transparency and motivations behind the operation, a stance Warring deemed as “in bad taste.”
Ending his post with a sarcastic dig, Warring wrote, “The whole world knows how ‘brave’ you are and how ‘bravely’ you SURRENDER,” alluding to what he sees as hollow bravado by the ruling party.
The Congress MP’s remarks underscore growing frustration within opposition circles over what they call the politicisation of national security by both state and central players, even as soldiers on the ground put their lives at risk.
