Chandigarh, May 26 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday laid the foundation stone for a modern cow hospital in Mathana village of Ladwa constituency, pledging ₹21 lakh in aid for its construction. Addressing the event held at the local Gauvansh Dham and Research Centre, the CM stated that the government has launched the Gau-Sanvardhan Yojana to make cow shelters (gaushalas) self-reliant. Under this scheme, the state’s first biogas plant will be set up in Yamunanagar at a cost of ₹90 crore.
Performing the bhoomi poojan (groundbreaking ritual), Saini also participated in gau-seva (cow service) and highlighted the significance of the upcoming hospital. He noted that the facility will not only care for stray and sick cattle but will also serve local livestock owners, improving animal healthcare access in the region.
He informed that ₹270 crore has already been released for fodder supply in gaushalas across the state. In the previous year alone, ₹166 crore was disbursed to 608 shelters. Additionally, ₹30 crore has been allocated for building sheds in 310 shelters. Saini emphasized that strict laws have been enacted in Haryana to ensure cow protection.
Solar Power and Sustainable Practices in Gaushalas
Saini revealed that solar power plants have been installed in 331 gaushalas, with construction underway in 344 more. These initiatives are heavily subsidized, with the government providing up to 90% support. The state also plans to build three cow sanctuaries in Nain, Dhandhur, and Panchkula, and has released ₹8 crore for shed, water, and fodder arrangements.
The government has committed to giving ₹10 lakh to each gaushala for shed construction, and 50 of these structures are already complete. Over ₹500 crore has been earmarked for cow welfare in the current fiscal year, a significant increase from just ₹2 crore before 2014. The number of registered gaushalas has risen from 214 to 683 since then, and the cow population in these shelters has surged from 1.74 lakh to 4.5 lakh.
The CM was also presented with a list of demands from the local sarpanch, Anjana Devi, and assured prompt action. He engaged with residents post-event to hear and address their grievances.
Call for Natural Farming for Better Health
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, who was also present, urged farmers to adopt natural farming for the health of their families. Highlighting India’s agricultural heritage, he explained the benefits of natural over chemical and organic farming. Subsidies are being provided for purchasing indigenous cows and materials required for Jeevamrit, an organic growth promoter.
He also pointed out reforms in procurement processes under the current government, ensuring that payments go directly to farmers’ accounts. Additionally, farmers are being supported under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana in case of low yields.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chairman Dharamveer Mirzapur, Gau Seva Commission Chairman Shravan Garg, Zila Parishad Chairperson Kamaljit Kaur, former Minister Subhash Sudha, and Media Secretary to the CM, Praveen Atreya.
