Mohali (National Times): The Punjab government has reactivated its COVID-19 response strategy after confirming the first case of the new coronavirus variant in Mohali. A 51-year-old woman from Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar tested positive during her visit to relatives and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
In response, the Health Department has launched contact tracing efforts, testing campaigns, and assessments of medical infrastructure across the state. All district hospitals and medical colleges have been instructed to scale up COVID testing, while the operation of ventilators and ICU units is being closely monitored.
Doctors and healthcare workers have been advised to wear face masks in public and clinical spaces, reinforcing the importance of basic safety protocols. Public advisories also recommend maintaining physical distance as part of a renewed awareness push.
Health Minister Balbir Singh offered reassurance to the public, stating that the new variant does not pose the same level of threat as earlier waves.
The state remains alert as health officials work to contain the situation and prevent further transmission.
