No DGMO Talks Today, No End Date to Ceasefire: Indian Army Clarifies

New Delhi, May 18, 2025 — The Indian Army has firmly stated that there are no scheduled talks today between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, countering reports suggesting otherwise. It also emphasized that the ongoing break in hostilities, agreed upon during the May 12 DGMO-level talks, does not carry any expiry date.

The Army’s statement comes in response to some media reports claiming that the ceasefire was set to end on May 18. Refuting these claims, an official spokesperson said, “No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as the continuation of a break in hostilities as decided in the DGMOs interaction of 12th May is concerned, there is no expiry date to it.”

During the May 12 conversation, Pakistan’s DGMO had reached out to his Indian counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, proposing a cessation of hostilities. This led to a mutual understanding on halting firing and military activity along the borders. Both sides reportedly also considered steps for troop de-escalation in forward areas.

The agreement followed India’s decisive Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead. The operation involved precision strikes on nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The Army’s clarification today signals that, despite the fragile calm, the ceasefire remains intact without a preset deadline, subject only to further mutual understanding.
