India, Pakistan DGMOs to Hold Key Talks Today After U.S.-Brokered Ceasefire

New Delhi, May 12, 2025: The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan are set to engage in a crucial dialogue today at noon, following a fragile ceasefire brokered by the United States amid escalating cross-border hostilities.

The meeting comes on the heels of one of the most intense border confrontations in nearly 30 years, sparked by India’s airstrike on alleged militant camps inside Pakistan. New Delhi linked the camps to the mass killing of 26 Hindu pilgrims in Kashmir, an accusation Islamabad has strongly denied.

The conflict rapidly escalated into missile exchanges and drone attacks, leading to multiple civilian and military casualties on both sides and triggering global alarm. In response, the U.S. stepped in to mediate a ceasefire, which was formally announced over the weekend.

While minor violations were reported initially, Sunday night remained calm, marking the first night without shelling since the conflict erupted paving the way for today’s high-level military communication.

India has reaffirmed its commitment to bilateral resolution of issues with Pakistan, dismissing third-party mediation, though Pakistan has acknowledged U.S. diplomatic efforts in de-escalating the situation.

The outcome of today’s DGMO talks will be pivotal in evaluating the stability of the ceasefire and identifying frameworks for long-term peace. With tensions still simmering, the discussions will be watched closely both at home and abroad.
