Chandigarh, May 6 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday lashed out at his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann for making what he called “provocative and irresponsible” remarks on inter-state water sharing. Addressing a public gathering at his residence, Sant Kabir Kutir, Saini criticized Mann for allegedly using his constitutional position to ignite tensions for political mileage.
“Instead of working for Punjab’s welfare, the Chief Minister is making divisive statements to further his political career,” Saini said, asserting that both Haryana and Punjab are like brothers and that such remarks only serve to drive a wedge between their people.
He also accused the Mann-led AAP government of failing farmers by not guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops and using force against them. “They should be supporting farmers, not suppressing them,” he said.
Saini didn’t stop at water issues. He took a dig at AAP’s governance in Punjab, alleging that the party, which was ousted in Delhi, is on its way to being rejected in Punjab as well. He slammed the unfulfilled promise of ₹2,100 monthly aid to women, pointing out that there was no allocation for it in Punjab’s budget. “This is nothing but vote-bank politics,” he claimed.
In contrast, he praised Haryana’s “double-engine” government, which he said has now become a “triple-engine” force accelerating development. He cited the Lado Laxmi Scheme, under which ₹5,000 crore has been earmarked for women’s welfare.
Highlighting rapid development in Ladwa, Saini said crores have already been invested in infrastructure, and more big projects are on the way. He assured the public that his government remains committed to inclusive development and merit-based employment.
“The doors of Sant Kabir Kutir are always open. I am your servant, and I’m here to solve your problems,” Saini told the crowd.
Targeting the Congress party, he alleged that its leaders were caught making job-for-vote promises during elections. He claimed that the Congress stalled recruitment results, prompting youth to appeal to him directly. “Before taking oath as CM, I fulfilled my promise by giving joining letters to 25,000 youth,” he added.
A local resident, Smt. Poonam, thanked the Chief Minister during the program, saying her son was selected as a Medical Officer purely on merit, without needing any bribe or recommendation—something she credited to the government’s transparent hiring process.
