Meet Punjab-based Gurleen Chandi, Running as MP Candidate from Edmonton Southeast

Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): In a promising new chapter for representation and grassroots politics in Alberta, Gurleen Chandi, a Punjab-born tech professional-turned-leader, is contesting as a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from Edmonton Southeast. With a rich background in technology and a deep understanding of everyday challenges faced by citizens, Chandi brings a fresh perspective to the political landscape.

Born in Punjab and having moved to Canada in November 2011, Chandi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. Since 2012, she has been building her career in the IT sector, working with high-profile clients across nuclear, aviation, and mining industries. Her journey includes leading multiple teams, working under pressure, and handling multi-million-dollar projects.

Speaking about her decision to enter politics, Chandi said, “I have multiple reasons to come into the field of politics. First of all, the voices of people are not reaching the government. Secondly, the struggles in everyday life have increased under the current government.”

She expressed concern about rising tax burdens, stagnant incomes, and inflation. “We pay taxes on our income, goods, and properties, but our salaries don’t grow accordingly. People are suffering, and I want to represent the common people to resolve their issues quickly,” she added.

A firm believer in economic growth through innovation, Chandi shared her vision of transforming Edmonton into a business hub. “Alberta is rich in resources. We should use this wealth to bring in more startups, strengthen the economy, and create jobs.”

Chandi also emphasized the need to address rising drug distribution and violence, advocating for technology-based solutions to build a safer society. “Iceland is known as the safest country due to its technology-driven systems. We can achieve something similar if we follow the same path,” she said.

In addition to safety and economy, Chandi aims to enhance healthcare, improve telecom infrastructure, and boost other essential services. “Canada is a great country, and Edmonton is my home. I want to see it flourish, and I believe we can take it much further with smart planning and sincere governance,” she concluded. As a voice of the common people with a tech-forward vision, Gurleen Chandi’s candidacy is being seen as a bold and refreshing step forward for Edmonton Southeast.
