Pahalgam (National Times): Following the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed by NSA Ajit Doval and EAM S. Jaishankar shortly after landing in Delhi on Wednesday morning.
The urgent meeting at the airport reflected the gravity of the situation, as the country reels from the loss of 27 innocent lives, including two foreign tourists. The assault, which took place in the Baisaran meadows, a popular trekking destination, marks one of the most significant attacks on civilians in the Valley in years.
Reports indicate that heavily armed terrorists emerged from forested areas around 2:45 PM and began firing at tourists, many of whom were vacationers from southern and western states of India. Panic swept the area as gunmen in combat gear launched their indiscriminate assault.
Government sources say the security apparatus is on high alert, and investigations are underway to trace the attackers’ network. A more detailed security response is expected following the initial briefing.
