Liberals Lead by 7 Points as Canada Heads into Final Week of Federal Election Campaign

National Times Bureau, April 21, 2025: With just seven days left before Canada’s federal election, a new Nanos Research poll places the Liberal Party in the lead with 44% national support—seven points ahead of the Conservatives, who stand at 37%. The New Democratic Party (NDP) trails with 11% support, while the Bloc Québécois and the Green Party are at 5% and 2% respectively.

This boost for the Liberals comes amid a wave of early voting, with over 2 million Canadians casting their ballots on the first day of advance polls—up by more than 800,000 compared to the same period in 2021. The turnout signals increased voter engagement in what has become one of the most consequential elections in recent memory.

Prime Minister Mark Carney, who took over from Justin Trudeau, is campaigning on an ambitious economic platform and greater independence from U.S. economic pressures. Meanwhile, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has focused on affordability issues and economic change, and is set to release his party’s platform this week.

Nanos founder Nik Nanos noted that while the Liberals are in a strong position, many ridings are still too close to call. With one week to go, all eyes are now on Thursday’s English-language leaders’ debate, which could sway undecided voters in key battlegrounds.
