39.15 Lakh Metric Tons of Wheat Arrives in Punjab Mandis, Over 35 Lakh MT Already Procured

Mohali, April 21, 2025: Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat stated that wheat arrival and procurement are progressing at full pace across the state’s mandis. With effective arrangements in place, farmers are facing no issues during the process. So far, 39.15 lakh metric tons of wheat have arrived in the mandis, of which 35.09 lakh metric tons have been purchased.

Barsat further shared that for the 2025-26 Rabi season, strong arrangements have been made with the convenience of farmers, commission agents, and laborers in mind. Out of the total purchase, 31.34 lakh metric tons were bought by government agencies, while 3.75 lakh metric tons were purchased by private buyers.

On April 20 alone, 10.12 lakh metric tons of wheat arrived in mandis, and 9.59 lakh metric tons were procured. Barsat emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government remains committed to farmers and will ensure they face no difficulties during wheat procurement.

To avoid inconvenience for farmers, commission agents, or workers, the mandis have been equipped with clean drinking water, toilets, shaded areas, and seating arrangements. Payments for crops are being credited directly to farmers’ bank accounts without delay.

Mandi Board officials are actively inspecting mandis to ensure smooth operations and are resolving issues on the spot. Additionally, a control room has been set up at the Mandi Board’s head office.

A total of 1,865 permanent procurement mandis have been declared, including 152 main yards, 285 sub-yards, and 1,428 procurement centers. Apart from these, 903 temporary mandis have also been announced to handle the season’s volume.
