Jalandhar (National Times): Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and filmmaker Gopichand Malineni are facing legal trouble after a case was lodged against them in Jalandhar for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a controversial scene in their latest film, Jaat.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Sadar Police Station in Jalandhar under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Vikalp Gold, a resident of Pholriwal village. The complaint cites a scene in the movie that allegedly disrespects Christian beliefs, particularly referencing a portrayal involving the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The issue gained traction after members of the Christian community staged a protest outside the office of the Police Commissioner. Demonstrators submitted a formal memorandum demanding immediate legal action against those involved in the film.
According to the complaint, a particular scene shows Randeep Hooda’s character positioned beneath a crucifix in a church setting, near the pulpit, during a prayer gathering. Protesters argue that the scene closely mimics a sacred depiction and is offensive to their faith.
Jaat, directed by Gopichand Malineni, features an ensemble cast including Regina Cassandra and Vineet Kumar Singh. Actress Urvashi Rautela also makes a special appearance in a dance number.
Despite the controversy, the buzz around the film continues. On April 17, Sunny Deol announced a sequel titled Jaat 2, sharing the update on Instagram and confirming his return in the lead role.
