India’s Road Network to Surpass US in Two Years: Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, March 26, 2025: Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that India’s road network will be better than that of the United States within the next two years.

Speaking at the Times Drive Auto Summit & Awards 2025, Gadkari expressed confidence in the rapid transformation of India’s highway infrastructure. “Earlier, I used to say that our highways would match those of the US, but now, I believe they will be even better,” he stated.

The minister also highlighted India’s push towards electric vehicle (EV) adoption, predicting that the country would surpass the US in EV manufacturing within five years. He emphasized that improved highways will significantly cut travel time between major cities like Delhi, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Bengaluru.

On Tesla’s entry into India, Gadkari welcomed competition, stating that the Indian auto industry is quality-focused rather than cost-centric. He assured that Indian manufacturers would produce affordable and high-quality vehicles.

Addressing logistics costs, he reaffirmed his goal of reducing expenses to single digits from the current 14-16%, making India globally competitive. He also set an ambitious target of constructing 60 kilometers of roads per day.

The Times Drive Auto Summit & Awards 2025, themed ‘Driving Tomorrow: Innovation, Sustainability, and the Future of Mobility,’ marks a significant milestone in India’s automotive and infrastructure development.
