CM Nayab Singh Saini Orders Probe into Transfer of Shamlat Deh Land to Waqf Board

Chandigarh, March 12 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced in the Assembly today that any transfer of Shamlat Deh land to the Waqf Board in the state will be thoroughly investigated. He also declared the formation of a committee under the Rohtak Divisional Commissioner to probe the transfer of land related to the Peer Bodhi case on the Rohtak-Gohana road. The committee will include the Karnal Divisional Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, who will carefully examine all facts and records related to the issue.

The Chief Minister stated that the government has taken the Peer Bodhi issue raised in the Assembly seriously. Initial investigations revealed that the land was originally classified as Shamlat Deh land in 1967-68. In 1990, the land was notified under the Punjab Waqf Board by the Government of India and subsequently registered as a cemetery. It is now under the Waqf Board’s management.

Saini emphasized that the transfer of Shamlat Deh land to the Waqf Board raises serious questions about the individuals and forces involved. He noted that after a lengthy legal process, the land came under the Waqf Board’s control in 2024 and is now leased out.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving village ponds, water bodies, and reservoirs. He highlighted amendments made to the Haryana Village Shamlat Land (Regulation) Act, 2024, which grants ownership rights to those residing on Shamlat Deh land in houses up to 500 square yards. However, he clarified that no houses can be built on land classified as a pond or water body. Saini underscored that the government remains dedicated to protecting these natural resources.
