Balochistan, March 11, 2025 – The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for seizing the Jaffar Express and holding 182 passengers hostage for over six hours, killing 20 Pakistani military personnel in the process.
Attack on Jaffar Express
The Jaffar Express was traveling from Quetta in Pakistan’s Balochistan province to Peshawar when it came under heavy fire. Pakistani local media reported that over 450 passengers and staff are feared to be held hostage. The BLA said its fighters from the Majeed Brigade are holding the hostages and warned that any rescue attempt by the Pakistani military would lead to the execution of the captives.
“If the Pakistani military attempts to approach, all hostages will be executed. The Fidayeen unit will continue to resist until martyrdom without retreating,” the BLA stated.
Military Confrontation and Casualties
The BLA claimed that its fighters have engaged the Pakistani Air Force using anti-aircraft artillery, inflicting heavy losses on the military. So far, no BLA fighters have reportedly been injured or killed during the operation.
“Intense confrontations with the Pakistani Air Force are ongoing. BLA fighters have inflicted severe damage on the enemy and are strengthening their positions,” the statement read.
Emergency Response
The Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency and mobilized all available resources to handle the situation. Government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that emergency measures are in place. According to ARY News, the train driver sustained severe injuries during the attack, and railway officials have lost contact with the train.
The train, consisting of nine coaches, left Quetta at 9 AM before being attacked in Balochistan. Pakistan’s security forces are working to assess the situation and establish contact with those on board.
