Panchkula, March 8 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini formally inaugurated the 37th Basant Utsav at Town Park, Sector-5, Panchkula. This two-day festival is being organized by the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA).
While addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his best wishes and said that India is a land of diverse seasons, each with its own significance. Every season is welcomed with a festival, and Basant Utsav symbolizes the rich cultural heritage of the country.
Describing Panchkula as a modern city nestled in the foothills of the Shivalik range and the sacred presence of Mata Mansa Devi, he said the city is known for its natural beauty and well-planned development. This year’s Basant Utsav showcases vibrant floral displays, creating an atmosphere filled with fresh energy and enthusiasm.
The Chief Minister congratulated the PMDA officials for successfully organizing the grand event and appreciated their dedicated efforts. During the festival, he observed various floral exhibits and participated in a tree plantation drive.
The festival features painting, fancy dress, rangoli, sketching, folk dance, and cultural performances by school children. The CM also honored the winners of different competitions. In the roundabout maintenance category, the Wellness Center of Western Command Headquarters, Chandimandir Cantt, was recognized. The Best Garden in School Campus (Primary) award was given to Satluj Public School, Sector-2 Panchkula, while The Gurukul, Sector-20 Panchkula, was awarded in the Secondary Wing category.
Apoorv Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban and Rural Planning Department, welcomed the Chief Minister and provided details about the festival. K. Makarand Pandurang, CEO of PMDA, announced that the two-day event includes flower decoration, cut flower competition, rangoli, sketching, pot painting, face painting, tattoo contest, environmental quiz, mehendi competition, and fancy dress competition. A Hasya Kavi Sammelan (Comedy Poetry Session) will also be held, featuring renowned humor poets. On March 9, events like couple dance, baby show, selfie contest, solo singing, and folk dance competitions will entertain visitors.
Several dignitaries, including Kalka MLA Shakti Rani Sharma, former Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta, and Panchkula Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, graced the event with their presence.
