DC Office Staff Halt Work After Punjab Government Suspends Striking Officials

Moga/Jalandhar (National Times)– Employees at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices in Moga and Jalandhar have ceased work in response to the Punjab government’s order to suspend tehsildars and naib tehsildars who were on strike. In Moga, staff staged a mass walkout, leaving their seats empty, while in Jalandhar, clerical workers continued their protest into a third day.

The District DC Office Employees’ Union, led by district president Dalbir Singh, plans to chart its next move at a Revenue Officers’ Union meeting in Moga today. “We’ll finalize our strategy after the meeting,” Singh stated. The session will bring together union heads, the suspended revenue officers, and other staff, potentially leading to an escalation of the protest. In Moga, the deserted DC office underscored the depth of employee discontent.

Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, clerks boycotted work alongside striking tehsildars, angered by the suspensions. A tehsildar who showed up at the Jalandhar tehsil office this morning to sign in noted the futility of their presence: “The clerical staff is on strike—what’s the point of me sitting here?” The standoff has stalled essential services, such as property registrations, for three days running, causing widespread inconvenience to the public.
