Dalit Community Outraged Over Congress Leader’s Remarks Against Mayawati

Dera Bassi, February 20, 2025 – A controversial remark by senior Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Kumari Mayawati has sparked widespread outrage across the Dalit community.

Jagjit Singh Chharbar, BSP’s Punjab General Secretary and Patiala Lok Sabha Incharge, condemned the statement, calling it disrespectful, misogynistic, and casteist. He asserted that this was not just an insult to Mayawati, but to all Dalits, marginalized communities, and women.

Congress’ History of Disrespect Toward Dalit Icons

Chharbar accused the Congress of historically undermining Dalit leaders, pointing out how Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was forced to resign as Law Minister. He praised Mayawati’s leadership, highlighting her four-time tenure as Uttar Pradesh CM, during which she established the rule of law and introduced reforms that uplifted Dalits, backward classes, and minorities.

He further alleged that Congress leaders deliberately make such statements to mislead voters and divert attention from their failed policies. He criticized Rahul Gandhi’s supposed support for Dalit rights, calling it a mere political stunt.

Demand for Legal Action

BSP leaders have demanded Udit Raj’s immediate arrest and FIR registration. They warned that if the BJP government and police fail to act, it will be seen as an alliance between BJP and Congress against Dalits and women.
