NCP Chief Calls Modi Government’s Advocate Act Amendment 2025 a Direct Attack on Lawyers’ Dignity

Chandigarh, February 20, 2025 – The New Congress Party (NCP) Supremo, Advocate Vivek Hans Garcha, has strongly opposed the Advocate Act-1961 Amendment Bill 2025, calling it a direct attack on the dignity and independence of lawyers across India. He accused the Modi government of trying to enslave advocates through this amendment and urged the central BJP government to withdraw the bill immediately.

Garcha, a prominent legal and political figure, warned that this amendment seeks to weaken the unity and power of advocates. He called upon lawyers nationwide to unite and resist the proposed changes, emphasizing that the legal fraternity has historically played a crucial role in major movements and even toppled governments.

“The central government is systematically working to break the strength and unity of advocates by amending the Advocate Act. This amendment is nothing but an attempt to suppress legal professionals and their independent voices. The BJP government is trying to dismantle the dignity and honor of advocates,” said Garcha.

The NCP has launched a nationwide appeal urging lawyers to stand together against the amendment, fearing it could undermine the independence of the legal profession. With growing opposition from legal professionals, this bill could lead to significant unrest and protests across the country.

As the debate over the Advocate Act-1961 Amendment Bill 2025 intensifies, all eyes are now on the government’s next move and how the legal community mobilizes in response.
