Lal Draman Winter Festival Draws Huge Crowds

The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department and District Administration organized the Lal Draman Winter Festival 2025 in Doda on February 9. Thousands of visitors, including tourists, locals, officials, and media personnel, gathered to celebrate the region’s culture, adventure, and natural beauty.

Lal Draman, a serene meadow in Doda, transformed into a vibrant hub for winter festivities. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes of the region, particularly the Lolab Valley in Kupwara.

Extreme Winter Conditions During Chillai Kalan

The festival followed the end of Chillai Kalan, Kashmir’s coldest 40-day winter period, which lasted from December 21 to January 31. This phase is known for sub-zero temperatures, frozen water bodies, and frost-covered landscapes.

During Chillai Kalan, heavy snowfall often disrupts daily life. Water bodies, including parts of Dal Lake in Srinagar, freeze over, creating a surreal winter spectacle.

With temperatures still low, residents continue to battle the cold while embracing the beauty of Kashmir’s winter wonderland.
