Malappuram (Kerala), February 9, 2025: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of undermining democracy and weakening the Constitution. Speaking at a United Democratic Front (UDF) booth-level leadership meeting at Sullamussalam Science College in Malappuram, she urged party workers to fight for the “soul of India.” Priyanka accused the ruling party of working against democratic values, stating, “It is probably the first time in the history of our nation that we have a government which is working to weaken the Constitution and democracy.” Calling on Congress workers to take an active role, she added, “You’re not just soldiers for the UDF. You are soldiers and warriors for the soul of India. Through you, people will understand we are fighting for their rights and for a stronger Constitution.” She further emphasized that the fight goes beyond political rivalry, describing it as a battle to protect India’s foundational values.
As the newly elected MP from Wayanad, Priyanka also addressed the ongoing man-animal conflict in the region, a pressing issue affecting local communities. She reaffirmed her commitment to resolving the crisis, stating, “I have already raised it once, and I will continue to raise it. It’s a complex issue without easy solutions, but I will put as much pressure as I can.” She highlighted funding constraints as a major roadblock, pointing out, “During my last trip, I met with the District Magistrate and forest officials. There are difficulties with funding from both the Centre and the state. More funding means better monitoring, safety measures, and protection for forest guards and watchmen.
”Priyanka Gandhi’s election to Wayanad followed Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain Rae Bareli after the Lok Sabha elections. Her increasing presence in Kerala signals Congress’s strategy to strengthen its base in the state while mounting a direct challenge to the BJP at the national level. With her strong remarks and commitment to local issues, she appears set to play a pivotal role in Congress’s upcoming electoral strategies.
