Faridkot (National Times)– The much-anticipated Punjab Prison Olympics 2025 began on February 3 at Central Jail Faridkot, marking the second edition of the initiative aimed at promoting discipline, teamwork, and rehabilitation among inmates. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Navjot Kaur, Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge, Faridkot, and will continue until February 9.
Inmate Teams Compete Across Punjab Jails
Launched in 2024, the Punjab Prison Olympics provides inmates an opportunity to engage in sports, channel their energy positively, and foster a spirit of camaraderie. This year’s tournament features participants from Central Jail Bathinda, District Jail Mansa, District Jail Muktsar Sahib, District Jail Barnala, Sub Jail Moga, and Sub Jail Fazilka.
The competition includes various sporting events such as:

✅ Tug of War
✅ Volleyball
✅ Badminton
✅ Athletics (100m, 400m, Long Jump)
Kabaddi Tournament Inaugurated
The Kabaddi Tournament was formally inaugurated today by Ojasvi, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Faridkot, in the presence of Shamsher Singh Shergill, DSP (HQ), Faridkot. The opening match saw District Jail Mansa take on Central Jail Bathinda in a spirited contest.
A Step Towards Inmate Rehabilitation
Speaking at the event, District & Sessions Judge Faridkot and ADC Faridkot commended the initiative, emphasizing its importance in inmate rehabilitation, stress management, and personal growth through sports.
Additionally, SP Jail Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal announced that standout performers from this tournament will qualify for the Inter-Zonal Punjab Prison Olympic Games 2025, scheduled for March 15-16 at Central Jail Patiala.
As the tournament progresses, the enthusiasm among inmates and officials alike highlights the transformative power of sports in correctional facilities.
