14 CJP Members Detained Over Jantar Mantar Incident; Two Leaders Remanded for Five Days

Jantar Mantar

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Fourteen members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) were detained after allegedly entering the restricted protest area at Jantar Mantar through private property and obstructing police personnel, Delhi Police said.

The incident occurred on October 13, when the group, which included Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde, arrived at the site despite it no longer being designated for protests, according to the police account.

Officials said personnel deployed at the location attempted to prevent the group from entering. The members allegedly resisted the police and interfered with officers carrying out their duties.

Following the incident, two First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered at Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations, police said.

Das, Ranka and Shinde were subsequently arrested under preventive legal provisions, with authorities citing concerns about possible further breaches of the law and disruption of public order.

The three were presented before a Special Executive Magistrate, where proceedings were initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The magistrate ordered five days of judicial custody for Das and Ranka, citing concerns that they might repeat the alleged conduct or encourage others to do so if released. The available information did not specify the custody status of Shinde following the proceedings.

The case centres on the group’s alleged entry into the area and its reported confrontation with police personnel. Further details about the circumstances leading to the incident and the subsequent legal proceedings were not immediately available.
