Youth Mock Parliament a Vibrant Laboratory for Policy-Making: CM Nayab Singh Saini

Chandigarh, June 28 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini described the Youth Mock Parliament not merely as an event, but as a festival of democracy and a vibrant laboratory for policy-making. He urged the youth to send a clear message through this Mock Parliament that the protection of democracy remains India’s highest priority.

Addressing young participants in Gurugram today, Mr. Saini said the Youth Mock Parliament is not just an academic exercise but also a significant occasion to reflect on the “black chapter” of the Emergency, which is remembered as Constitution Murder Day—a time when the soul of democracy was crushed.

Gurugram: A Land of Innovation and Aspiration

The Chief Minister highlighted that holding the event on the soil of Gurugram is not only a sign of a bright future for the youth but also demonstrates the city’s role as a strong laboratory for democracy. He praised Gurugram known as the sacred land of Guru Dronacharya and the Millennium City for always fostering innovation and aspiration, with today’s event further strengthening this identity.

Mr. Saini said that whenever he sees such energetic youth, his resolve for a developed India and a developed Haryana grows stronger. He emphasized that this generation of the “Amrit Kaal” will be the force driving India toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, and the Youth Mock Parliament will be a significant milestone on this journey.

Every Word in Parliament Impacts Citizens’ Lives

Mr. Saini urged the youth not to view Parliament merely as a building but as the center of the aspirations of 140 crore Indians. He explained that every word spoken and every law passed in Parliament profoundly affects the lives of the country’s most marginalized citizens. The purpose of the Youth Mock Parliament, he stressed, is not just to imitate parliamentary procedures but to imbibe the spirit that makes Indian democracy unique.

He encouraged youth to study any topic deeply and present their views based on facts and data. When supporting government policies, they should explain the rationale and potential long-term consequences. He added that while dissent is a democratic right, it should not be opposition for the sake of opposition. True strength in democracy lies in constructive criticism offered with solutions and alternatives. He clarified that democracy needs dissent, not obstruction.

India Now a Global Problem-Solver

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Mr. Saini said that India is no longer a country that seeks help from the world but has become a partner in solving global challenges. He noted that India has emerged as a global leader in fields like defense, digital technology, startups, green energy, space technology, artificial intelligence, and the semiconductor mission.

Youth Urged to Strengthen the Spirit of “One India, Great India”

Mr. Saini called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the Youth Mock Parliament and adopt four key resolutions in their lives: study any one burning national issue in-depth and create awareness for its solution; avoid any shortcuts in life; reject dynastic politics and corruption; and work to further strengthen the spirit of “One India, Great India.”

Emergency Was a Period of Injustice, Not Merely Emergency: Gaurav Gautam

Minister of State for Sports, Gaurav Gautam, stated that describing the Emergency imposed in 1975 merely as an “emergency” would be an understatement of that era’s cruelty. In reality, it was a period of injustice, where the Constitution, freedom of expression, and citizens’ rights were ruthlessly suppressed. When an elected representative veers toward dictatorship and violates the Constitution in the intoxication of power, it leads to the worst assault on democracy, the biggest example of which was the Emergency, he said.

The event was also attended by Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, BJP State President Mohanlal Kaushik, MLAs Mukesh Sharma, Tejpal Tanwar, Vimla Chaudhary, and other dignitaries.
